GOLF COURSES

Talamore has been ranked in the forefront of outstanding  courses in the Village of Pinehurst area; an area which has been known for its golfing traditions for over a century. Talamore Golf Partners hired architect Rees Jones to bring his considerable talents back to Village of Pinehurst in order to design a course that would be visually striking and exceptionally enjoyable. The result was a 7,020 yard course that was ranked in the top five new courses in America upon its opening in 1992 by Golf Digest. According to Rees Jones:  "This is a position course. Length isn't going to benefit the long hitter. What I'm trying to do is require thinking. I don't want to take the drive out of the golfer's hands, but what I want him to have to think about whether he wants to use it.  You have to manufacture golf shots and make them happen. Strategy is an important key to a successful round of golf here.  My hope is that golfers will enjoy this dimension of the game.  Talamore is intended to capture the best of classic golf in the Village of Pinehurst area. The site has a spirit that's unmistakable: one that allowed for a remarkable diversity of features.  There's a challenge in the course that's meant to add to the enjoyment of the game. After all, golf is supposed to be fun."

Third generation golf course architect Dan Maples, creator of the Award Winning Pit Golf Links, brings his talent back home to Southern Pines with Longleaf Golf & Country Club. Built on the site of one of the Village of Pinehurst's former horse training estates, Longleaf shines with Dan's love of tradition. Many of the original features -- the white fences, rail post and hedgerows -- have been carefully retained as a tribute to the original site.

No.1

It all started here. When Pinehurst No. 1 welcomed players in 1898, golf aficionados flocked from the North to enjoy a winter round (early visitors included John D. Rockefeller and President William McKinley). After English golf legend Harry Vardon conducted a series of golf demonstrations at No. 1 in 1900, Pinehurst was on its way to being on the world golf map. Dr. Leroy Culver built the first nine holes and John Dunn Tucker added the next nine, but it is clearly Donald Ross’s touch that you feel on Pinehurst’s first golf course. After his initial efforts reworking the back nine, he implemented changes on the front, and made further revisions in 1913, 1937, 1940 and finally in 1946, shortly before his death. The simple yet strategic philosophy that informed Ross’s later design work is very much in evidence on No. 1, which is all the more remarkable when you consider that this was for all intents and purposes his first design.

CCNC is best known for its nationally ranked Dogwood Course (renovated in 1999) and Cardinal Course (renovated in 2002). Among the amenities available at CCNC are a full service pro-shop, men's & ladies'  locker rooms, practice facility, and handicap service. Golf at CCNC is for the entire family with Men's & Ladies' events, Couple Tournaments, Twilight events, Ladies' 9 hole Golf, Dornochers Men's Group, Junior Golf programs and a number of tournaments.

Legacy Golf Links host site of the 2000 U.S.G.A. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship, is the only golf club in the celebrated Pinehurst area to successfully blend the accessibility of a public course with the amenities of a private club. Legacy is a Jack Nicklaus II Golden Bear Design course whose level of maintenance is worthy of it's Nicklaus heritage. Legacy Golf Links, an "outstanding public facility" has received both Four Star and Great Value Ratings from Golf Digest's Places to Play Guide.
