Described as "Pine Valley on steroids" and "golf's rock and roll thrill ride", Tobacco Road Golf Club is certainly unique.  Carving his way through an old sand quarry, Mike Strantz created one of the most celebrated and talked about courses in the world. Consistently rated amongst the nation's best, Tobacco Road is the one course that leaves you and your golfing friends begging for more.  The scene is so breath-taking you will want to bring along your camera to forever capture the greatness of "The Road".  Playing at a length of 6500 yards from the Ripper tees, Tobacco Road was rated as high as second in slope to the famed Ocean Course at Kiawah Island.

DORMIE is an 18 hole Coore & Crenshaw designed golf club that opened as a private club in May 2010. Many consider Dormie to be their best work to date. Non-member play is being accepted for a limited time. The course is built on 307 acres and located in the middle of 1,028 acres of rolling sand hills. There is a 110' change of elevation  across the property. Dormie was originally designed as a walking only course. We have added carts for those who would rather ride. Caddies and fore caddies are recommended.

Course No. 3

It all started here. When Pinehurst No. 1 welcomed players in  1898, golf aficionados flocked from the North to enjoy a winter round (early visitors included John D. Rockefeller and President William McKinley). After English golf legend Harry Vardon conducted a series of golf demonstrations at No. 1 in 1900, Pinehurst was on its way to being on the world golf map. Dr. Leroy Culver built the first nine holes and John Dunn Tucker added the next nine, but it is clearly Donald Ross’s touch that you feel on Pinehurst’s first golf course. After his initial efforts reworking the back nine, he implemented changes on the front, and made further revisions in 1913, 1937, 1940 and finally in 1946, shortly before his death. The simple yet strategic philosophy that informed Ross’s later design work is very much in evidence on No. 1, which is all the more remarkable when you consider that this was for all intents and purposes his first design.

Originally designed by Gene Hamm, the 18-Hole, par 72 Magnolia  Course opened to rave reviews in 1989, and within two months was ranked as one of the top 50 courses in the entire southeastern United States by Golf Week. The Magnolia has seen a complete multi-million dollar redesign, to include new greens complexes with Crenshaw Bent Grass, bunkers and cart paths. The result is a truly fantastic lay-out with emphasis on risk-reward golf. In an area that boasts numerous award winning courses, the Magnolia remains a local favorite. The course is characterized by vast elevation changes, generous driving areas, and spacious challenging greens. In the summer edition of the 2003 Pinehurst Magazine, the Magnolia was ranked as the fifth best course in the area, by the 43 PGA Golf Professionals. Please us NC 211 entrance

Legendary golf course architect Donald Ross carved 18  of perhaps the most rewarding golf holes in the Sandhills region. A true shot maker's golf course, Ross gives players options. At 6300 yards, Southern Pines does not measure up to today's length of courses, but it makes up for it through a variety of shots from the tee and even more challenges into the greens. The result continues to prove the course's notoriety as the most entertaining 18 holes of golf in the area. A throwback to days gone by, where bump and run shots were the norm and tee shots demanded precision over length. One trip around this Ross gem will leave you wanting more, not just at that moment, but rather each every time you tee it up. This is how golf should be played. The memories are more vivid and will last a lifetime.

Third generation golf course architect Dan Maples, creator of the Award Winning Pit Golf Links, brings his talent back home to Southern Pines with Longleaf Golf & Country Club. Built on the site of one of the Village of Pinehurst's former horse training estates, Longleaf shines with Dan's love of tradition. Many of the original features -- the white fences, rail post and hedgerows -- have been carefully retained as a tribute to the original site.
